what to expect

When you arrive at the studio for your session, we'll talk about backdrop options and decide which outfits you'd like to begin with.

During your session, we will use studio lighting and/or a blend of natural window light and studio lights.

And do not worry about posing! I'll offer guidance and suggest interactive prompts to ensure a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere for you and your family or group.

what to bring

Younger kids:

  • A snack

  • Wipes

  • Extra clothing

  • Toy or stuffed animal (if it will comfort them or you want it featured as part of your session!)

Adults and older children/teens:

  • Some extra clothing options

  • Hairbrush and extra makeup

  • Any items/accessories you want to feature as part your session.

what to wear

  • When planning your outfits for your upcoming photoshoot, I encourage you to embrace color! Think vibrant and bold shades, while steering clear of fluorescent hues. For family and group sessions, having some members wear rich, "pop" colors can add a wonderfully unique touch to your photographs.

  • I generally recommend avoiding pure white, as it can sometimes be too stark (unless you are intentionally going for a high-contrast aesthetic). Ivory or beige tones tend to photograph more softly and beautifully.

  • Patterns can work well, provided they aren't too overwhelming and complement the rest of your group's attire. Please avoid clothing with prominent words or logos, as these can be distracting in the final images.

  • A helpful tip is to lay out all your chosen outfits together on a flat surface before your session day and take a quick photo with your phone. This will give you a good visual of how everything coordinates.

  • The best clothing choices are those in which you feel comfortable and confident. Be sure to pay attention to how well the clothes fit.

  • Don't forget that accessories can be a fantastic way to inject extra personality into your images. Just ensure they complement your outfit and the overall look of the group.

  • If children are part of your session, consider involving them in the process of selecting their outfits. This can often build their excitement for the photoshoot.

See below some outfit ideas for color and styling inspiration.

Studio etiquette for kids

When younger children visit the studio it’s important to let them know that they will see some cool but heavy (and delicate) equipment there. And for their safety, they should never touch any of the lights or backdrops.

So when at the studio, as well as, when using common areas (lobby, hallways, bathroom, etc) walking feet, rather than running feet are preferred for safety reasons.

Talking to your children ahead of time about expectations will make our time together enjoyable and fun. Thank you for your support!
