what you need to know - please read below for an overview of how our
dance photography program works.

Gaby Cavalcanti Photography is looking forward to working with your dancer once again at the Adage Ballet Academy Annual Photoshoot on September 27th.

What to expect

  • Gaby Cavalcanti and her team will be working with Abby Jayne DeAngelo and Guillaume Basso to capture dance portraits of all dancers at Adage starting at 3pm on September 27th. Specific arrival time for each dancer will be determined by Adage Ballet Academy instructors.

  • In addition to individual dance photos, group photos and headshots will also be captured.

preparing for your time in front of the camera:

Most dancers are used to and are fairly comfortable in front of the camera. But here are some important things to keep in mind:

  • What to wear:

    • Female dancers - Black leotards are the standard for audition photos, but you may also wear a solid color leotard if preferred. Skirts are optional. You may bring a few options and decide once you arrive to the studio. For further guidance, consult with your Adage instructors.

    • Male dancers - Male ballet dancers typically wear black tights or leggings, a fitted white or solid color shirt or tank top, and black ballet slippers. For further guidance, consult with your Adage instructors.

  • Tights: The most important thing about tights is that they are clean and without holes. We recommend buying new tights for your photo session.

  • Flat shoes and Pointe shoes: Wear clean flat shoes without holes and bring your favorite pointe shoes (if you are on pointe)

  • Hair: You may wear your hair in a neat bun. Make sure you also bring hair spray, gel and other supplies in case you need to tidy up your hair.

  • Makeup: We recommend you wear a lighter version of stage makeup or light makeup. But bring your makeup with you for touch ups. Here are a few additional tips (you can also watch THIS VIDEO):

    1. Prep the Skin

    • Wash your face with a gentle cleanser.

    • Apply a lightweight moisturizer (oil-free if you have oily skin).

    2. Even Out the Skin (Optional)

    • You may choose to wear foundation OR Skip foundation—teens usually don’t need heavy coverage.

    • If you need some coverage, use a tinted moisturizer, BB cream, or just a dab of concealer on blemishes or under the eyes.

    3. Brows

    • Brush brows into place with a clean spoolie.

    • If needed, lightly fill in sparse areas with a brow pencil or powder, but keep it soft.

    4. Eyes (male dancers can skip this step)

    • Neutral shades are best—light beige, peach, or soft brown.

    • For a simple look, apply one shade all over the lid.

    • Curl your lashes and add a coat of brown or black mascara.

    5. Cheeks (male dancers can skip this step)

    • Choose a cream blush in a rosy or peachy tone. Dab lightly on the apples of the cheeks for a natural flush.

    6. Lips

    • Tinted lip balm, gloss, or a soft shade lipstick works well. Older teens may choose a darker/bolder color for their lips.
